My Workspace

While from 8-5 Monday through Friday, I do sit in a cubicle staring at a computer screen on the 6th floor of an office building, I have found my escape on the weekends in the form of my new workshop.

The building itself was a farm at one time (or so I am told) The first floor houses several small businesses, the owners of which are friendly and always ready with a prompt “hello”, and “how is your day going?”. The second floor is our apartment. But the basement is where the fun begins. It is a granite foundation and the joists holding the old floor boards of one of the businesses above allow only 6 feet of headroom. As I am 6’4 I stand between them, and am very careful when I am moving around a lot.

I noticed once that there was an old home made workbench there, but it was completely covered with the accumulation of 50 years of stuff from all the businesses and past tenants. As I started to uncover it, I quickly realized that it was very well built, and had some great features not the least of which was style.

Once I had it uncovered, I had to do something about light. The flood of natural sunlight from the half window above was fantastic, but it only lasts a few hours a day this time of year. Between the lights that were there already that I was able to position as I wanted, and a broken lamp that still worked just had no base, I was able to get acceptable light into the workspace, and it was now ready to be worked in.

I was very excited yesterday to get down a base coat onto 22 frames. That means I should be able to reopen even sooner than I thought. Keep an eye out, with this new found space, who knows where my creativity will take me, and the best part is that you get to see it all at www.jcrabbit.etsy.com .

My hair fiasco

So Last Friday my wife was out at a hair appointment, I had gotten the kids to bed and was bored. This is never a good thing. I began looking for things to do. Somehow (dont ask) I ended up in the bathroom, and I found a box of hair bleach. I think it was Garnier or something. I thought "Heck she is out doing her hair... I am going to do mine" I commenced in Bleaching my hair for about an hour then rinsed. I think I was hopeing it would be less orange. I Showed my wife my handy work when she got home, and she peomptly handed me the clippers.

I did wear it for about a day, but it itched, and was far too light. and so I went into the bathroom with the clippers. then I came back out. I knoew this wasnt exactly what she had in mind, but I thouhgt it was pretty cool... yeah maybe if i were still a teenager. cutting your own Mohawk into your hair is suprisingly more difficullr that I thought it would be. I couldnt seem to find the line to make a nice clean spike. I think it may have been against my office policy to wear my hair in such a fashiopn anyway... but I would have tried it for a day.

So back into the bathroom I went to finish what I had started. I hope it asll grows back although I see the slowly receeding line begining to form. is that bad if I am only 26? hmmm Well anyway that is the story or why I now have a bleach blonde buzz cut. My firends at work said I liooked like eminem or an inmate... or possible both.
I told them I was staring in a major motion picture and this was part of the role. hopefully they dont read this and catch on.

Biggest Giveaway ever on Etsy

I promised it a few months ago and since April fools day is over I can finally post this without it being taken as a hoax. I am giving away a Coffee Table! That's right a J.Crabbit original vintage door coffee table!!! Not only do you get the table, but you pay no shipping...I never charge shipping in my shop so why would I make you pay for something you won? Right?

It will be similar to this table. Although the color and size will be determined by the winner. after all it is a custom piece.

So I know what you're thinking... actually that's a lie I have no Idea what you're thinking, but If I were you I would be thinking..."Holy Crap a free coffee table?? those sell on Etsy for over $300.00, Is this guy out of his mind, Wait a minute how do I enter to win??"

Well I suppose if there were a catch that would be the one. all you have to do to be entered into the drawing to win the coffee table is buy an earring frame in April. You can have an additional entry for every earring frame you buy, so tell your friends. I will keep listing them and will be taking custom orders (which will still get you entered) throughout the month.

As long as I sell a total of 10 earring frames, I will put all the names into a hat and find a fair way to draw a name out of it...I think I will utilize the tiny fingers of my non-bias 2 year old son to pick. I will record and post a video of the drawing to this Blog on May first!

There IS 1 way to get your name entered without purchasing anything at all. Comment on this post. I know seems easy right? Every user that comments this post will be entered into a preliminary drawing. If your name is drawn in the preliminary drawing, YOU'RE IN. I take your name and add it to the final drawing for the table.

Why am I giving away a coffee table? Because I thought it would be really fun, It's Marketing, and I think everyone deserves the chance to get something cool at little or possible no cost.

What are you still doing here, comment quick , then go buy a frame, or 5!
