People watching

I love to sit in public places and "people watch" it is basically observing those around you for amusement... it is all kinds of fun. I recently discovered an audio version called over heard in. My local version is overheard in Portland. basically people hear things in public places, and submit it to this blog where it is shared for everyone.

Well with Etsy's recent change in the default search to relevancy, I have picked up another old past time, "Etsy Evesdropping" it consists solely of watching people complain on the forums. it is soo great, usually it is all people who cant sell, asking and begging how do I make money here (yeah because your competitors are going to divulge all their secrets to you) but for this case it was mostly successful shops whining.

I know it affected a lot of peoples personal finances, and maybe I shouldnt take it so lightly just because I am a casual Etsy seller, but if you are looking for a good laugh or just some entertainment, Check out some of the replies and threads this has sparked, guarantee you will be entertained.

  1. Oohhh.... people watching is one of my FAVORITE sports. I can sit in a mall foreverrr just watching people as they shop. The Etsy forums are a great place to get a nice dose of drama... though I don't get over there as much as I used to! The negativity was getting to me.

  2. I think that relevancy will level the playing field and make things more "fair." As someone who doesn't sell very much on Etsy, and who also sells lower-priced items, I could never afford to renew as much as the top sellers did. Now, it won't be required to be seen (especially in my category: jewelry.) I'm pretty happy about the changes. Those successful seller can just moves their renewing money elsewhere. They are happy to buy form me if they don't know what else to do with it! HAHA

  3. I love people watching! I love going out to old dive bars and watching the "older" folks dance and get drunk. We have a mall and shopping village by us where all the uppity up and hoity toity people hang out{we go there for the Big Spoon Yogurt and Live music onthe weekends} and it's always good people watching and comical most of the time. I could people watch all day!

  5. I used to do the same thing in etsy (back when there were no teams -- only forums). I'd watch all these crazy political discussions going on. Eventually I'd even let myself get sucked in. If you watch Breaking Bad, it was a but like getting sucked into Jesse's crack house. If you don't, then that comment made no sense. Please don't think I regularly get sucked into crack houses. But... I'm a "casual etsy seller" like you these days, so I can relate.

  6. HAHA that is hilarious. luckily I am familiar with the show. Etsy has already released what they are replacing renewals with, Everyone freaked thinking that Etsy was leaving them high and dry, it has been awesome to follow and laugh at this week, Especially for an optimist.

  8. Sooo true. I can barely even get myself to browse through the forums anymore. Constant whining and complaining! Here's an idea, go research what you need to do and quit spending your time whining! Too harsh?

  9. Ha... not at all. That is exactly what I say. I keep it positive there, but want to just tell people to change what they are doing and shut the (enter expletive here) up.

  10. I agree. Lots of complaining and whining instead of constructive threads on how to meet the challenges of the changes. I just hate that. So, like yourself, I find myself reading threads and thinking, what's the use of adding to this? way too much negativity.
